World Away is a 3D immersive space/solo exhibition sponsored by New Art City.
Using sound installation, photography, 3D objects, text, short film, GIFs, texture, and perceived space, I designed a world that not only presents a curation of artworks, but also includes specific influences for that work. Livestream events have been scheduled in the space for one-time viewing. These ‘performances’ cease to exist once the livestream ends. Real time chat allows players (visitors) to connect with the artist while present in the space at the same time, and during the event launch, a portal existed to invite players to continue interaction on a private Discord channel.
A strong theme running through this world is urban expansion and development, specifically in my present home of Shantiniketan (literally translates as Abode of Peace), celebrated for its rich history of bringing together nature, arts and education as envisioned by Nobel-laureate Rabindranath Tagore, and transforming rapidly due to commercial development. Isolation is another thread woven through this space, with an entire pavilion dedicated to interdisciplinary works made in response to a series of lockdowns (within India, the state of West Bengal, and additional closures/curfews affecting smaller localities).
