Wasp Nest (2015) takes an introspective journey into metaphors associated with the shelter of stinging creatures. As an expressive part of the process, I crafted a variety of nests from materials that mimic the wasps’ intricate mud and paper houses, and then used those sculptures as subjects for my photographs.
An incarnation of this work was selected for exhibition at the Huntington Museum of Art, received the Juror’s Choice Award in the 2015 Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition, and was part of The Discarded Ones solo exhibition at Ohio University Southern. Smaller fragments of this work also hung at OUS as well as being recognized for InPrint-Is and exhibited in Sydney, Australia.
An original paper pulp sculpture remains in tact, as does a collection of original tritone gum bichromate prints.
