These Lovely Mountains

These Lovely Mountains

My mother sent me photos which were displayed for my grandmother’s funeral this morning. Here’s a selection with Grandma’s parents, Great Grandma & Grandpa Berg. I always thought their German name translated to ‘town’ (an assumption I made based on cities like Pittsburg, Parkersburg, Johannesburg, etc.). Just recently a friend who has been contemplating a move to Germany told me that the name literally translates as “mountain.”

It came as quite a surprise, as mountains have been thematic for me in this past year. Just since arriving in Maine, I created a new, synchronous signature for my work. You can read about that by clicking here...it becomes far more significant now knowing that mountains are running through my blood.
