Feeling the pull of film once again. #yashica635

When I work on long erasure poems, I try not to fully read the source material so that it doesn't influence too much of my own narrative. Rather, I skim the pages for words to float upon the page and, in this project, came up with numbering systems so that I skipped entire sections of text (ex. one poem comes from all the page #s with a sum of 5 inspired by a peculiar numbering system written by the book's original owner...5, 14, 23, 32, 41, 50, 104, etc.).

I've been staying in the creative space of @judithdolores_ during my visit to Columbus...today, still buzzing from her gathering of the Bloomsbury gals. The beautiful thing about company from the past is that old friends remind you of that spark from long ago. I realized each of the compliments I received about my photography shared the very same essence infused in this space, in Judith's pottery, in Karla's designs, and even in Beth's kind soul. When I whittled this all down to a single word, heart/felt is the expression that resonated most. 🩷

It's so hard to share most of my work without a physical presence. This book is the inspiration behind a collection of erasures. I picked it up along the coast of Maine several years ago and was fascinated by details jotted on the end pages.

Made it to NYC... Ohio bound today but already missing home in West Bengal. My first meal in the states was a good ol' American hot dog where myself, another patron and two employees were chatting in Bengali. And, coincidentally, one of my neighbors in Shantiniketan is going to be in the same neighborhood as me in Columbus in just a few days.
