Roots

While sorting through a tote at my parents’ home, I came across this photograph. It is the first image I made with a clear vision in my mind : all the way down to the type of film I wanted to use. The only thing missing was a crow I had envisioned hanging from the lower branch.

It must have been after developing this roll of film when I realized my camera had been broken after loaning it out to a friend on a fieldtrip to Washington DC, and it would be one of the last photographs I’d make for several years until I bought another camera in my early twenties.
