NOTE: There
are hundreds, if not thousands, of additional resources that could be included
here. Several of these links act as jumping-off points for your own research.
Set aside a couple of days of sifting through galleries/residencies/grants/etc.
and keep a calendar to track deadlines throughout the year. Otherwise, if you
visit a site today that won’t have another open call for several months, it’s
quite likely you’ll forget completely.
Another tip is to scroll through the CVs of artists you admire who create work of
a similar vibe as your own. What outlets are promoting their work? It’s a good
way to familiarize yourself with publications/grants/residencies/galleries/etc.
that might also be a good fit for your own work. Just keep in mind that your voice
should be distinct. Most galleries would not represent two artists whose works
appear too similar and jurors/curators are typically on the hunt for something
‘new’.
