Words from a lover. Sometimes I transcribe fragments of phone calls from across the sea. The dichotomy of these particular words especially interests me. It reminds me of the years I was obsessed with acting: text on a page can seem entirely opposite of how it is represented in a spoken context. Here, I read these words as sad and lonely, but when I recall the tone of his voice, it stirs me to think he sees me as a magical creature, even as I feel I’m stumbling along.
